Manufactured homes have a unique vulnerability in earthquake country: many sit on stacked piers that can shift, tip, or collapse when the ground shakes. The result is a home knocked off its supports — with broken gas and water lines, structural damage, and a costly, dangerous mess. The good news is that the fix is well understood and affordable: an earthquake bracing system.

What earthquake bracing actually does

An earthquake-resistant bracing system (often called an ERBS) ties your home's frame to the ground with engineered braces. Instead of the home sliding off its piers, the braces absorb and resist the lateral forces of a quake, keeping the home where it belongs. It's the single most effective upgrade for protecting a manufactured home in a seismic event.

Why it matters: the most common — and most expensive — earthquake damage to mobile homes isn't from the shaking itself. It's from the home falling off its supports. Bracing directly prevents that.

Signs your home may be vulnerable

  • It sits on stacked dry piers with no visible bracing or strapping.
  • You've never had a seismic upgrade since the home was set.
  • You can see gaps, leaning piers, or shims that have worked loose underneath.
  • Doors and windows have started sticking — a hint the home has shifted.

If any of those sound familiar, it's worth having the underside of your home inspected. We do this as part of our free estimate.

Does bracing help with insurance or financing?

Often, yes. A braced, properly supported home is a lower risk, and bracing frequently pairs with the foundation upgrades lenders look for. If you're planning to refinance or sell, addressing seismic safety at the same time as your foundation can save you a second trip under the house.

What an install involves

After inspecting your home's size, configuration, and current supports, we design a bracing layout to code, install the engineered components, and document the work. Most installations are completed quickly and with minimal disruption — you stay in your home the whole time.
